OF CHURCH AND STATE
We are known as the San Fernando Valley Chapter, but our membership extends far beyond the San Fernando Valley.
Our chapter supports members north of Orange County, south of Kern County, west of Riverside County and west of the Pacific Ocean.
Americans United for the Separation of Church and State was founded in 1947 by religious, political and educational leaders in order to defend the most precious of our nation’s freedoms - the freedom of conscience.
Our primary goal is to educate the public regarding the importance of religious liberty through the separation of church and state. Americans United also works to preserve public education by opposing efforts that would introduce sectarian worship practices into public schools or divert tax aid to religiously affiliated private schools.

From court cases to school board elections, church & State Magazine is your most comprehensive resource for current trends in religious freedom.
You will receive invitations to our chapter general meetings featuring excellent speakers to discuss current topics that will promote religious freedoms and civil liberties for all. Members are always welcome to attend and participate in our monthly Executive Board Meetings held in the Chatsworth area.

Americans United The Constitution mandates it. Most Americans believe in it. Separation guarantees you freedom to worship or not worship as you choose. But today, powerful religious leaders and misguided politicians have joined forces to undercut the First Amendment. Since 1947, Americans United has worked to protect the constitutional principle of church-state separation, a vital cornerstone of religious liberty. Americans of many faiths and political viewpoints have come together to defend our freedoms. Here are some statements made by Presidents of the United States, and a contrast with some of the things said by those on the radical religious right.
